At Sinking Ship Entertainment, we ventured into new territory by developing a show using Unreal Engine, where I had the role of FX Supervisor. Leading a skilled team of four artists, we were tasked with creating a wide range of dynamic effects that brought the scenes to life in real-time. Our work involved everything from the subtle to the dramatic, with dust hits and puffs adding realism to action sequences, and dirt trails enhancing the authenticity of character movements across varied terrains.
We also tackled more complex simulations, such as generating realistic shampoo foam for a key scene, and creating the warm, flickering flames of a campfire that served as a central element in several shots. In addition to the campfire, we crafted detailed effects for candle flames and the subtle, wispy smoke that followed. Working in Unreal allowed us to see our effects in real-time, enabling quicker iterations and a more immersive creative process, which ultimately contributed to the show’s rich visual storytelling.
